Frequently Asked Questions
About OHM Fitness
What can I expect in my first OHM workout session?
If this is your first class, please try to arrive at least 15 minutes early.
When you come into OHM Fitness for your first class, you will be greeted by our wonderful Fitness Concierges and given a tour of the facilities. Once you are comfortable with the studio, you will be given your emPower Suit, instructions on how to put it on, and led to a private changing room.
After your suit is on, you will be set up by our expert trainers and given all the tools and information needed to get started on your first workout!
You will also store your belongings in a cubby that corresponds to the mat you chose for your workout and be given your battery. The battery is controlled by one of our coaches who will come up to you periodically throughout the class to check on your levels. Your coach will be able to adjust the suit intensity up or down in your arms, back, abs, glutes, or legs.
When the class begins you will see the workout you are doing on the screens in front and behind you displayed and our coaches will help ensure you are doing each workout correctly.
You will then go through the green (warm-up) to the red (peak) and down to the blue (cooldown) period, all in 25 fun-fueled minutes!
After the workout, we will give you one of our ice-cold peppermint towels and you will head back to the changing room (where you could use the Red Light Therapy if you opted for it).
The workout is only 25 minutes long, so expect to be with us for 45-60 minutes in total.
How many classes a week should I take?
We recommend you do three classes a week for maximum effects, we recommend against more than three classes a week (unless the 4th class is a yoga class). However, you will see benefits from as little as one class a week.
What should I expect during the free week?
When you sign up for your free week with OHM Fitness, you will get to experience everything that OHM Fitness has to offer.
You will have access to our variety of programming and are encouraged to sign up for each of our three group classes: Sculpt & Sweat, Strong Vibrations, and Stretch & Flow. This will give you the chance to experience each of the different modalities of our emPower Suit as well as our variety of movement patterns.
Additionally, you will have access to our Red Light Therapy room and will receive a complimentary Styku Body Scan. Signing up for our free week also gives you access to member-only exclusive discounts within the studio.
What is the significance of your lighting?
At the beginning of the workout, you will see green lighting and hear more calm music, because this is our warm-up period.
As the lights change and the music amps up you will go into the red lighting which is the peak of the workout (the intensity of both the exercises and the suit will hit its peak here).
Then after this peak, things will calm down in intensity again and you will eventually be brought into the cool-down period of blue lighting and more soothing music.
How long does the OHM workout take?
From start to finish, our OHM Fitness workouts are always 25 minutes and begin exactly at their starting time.
Please arrive on time, and if you wish to stretch a little extra before or after, then prepare to arrive early or stay late.
Where can I download the OHM app?
You can download it from the Apple App Store here.
You can download it from the Google Play Store here.
What classes do you offer?
Strong Vibrations is a strength-focused class that targets the whole body with varied movements in every class. This class provides the stimulus of resistance training and compound exercises that promote lean muscle growth & fat burning. You can expect to feel the results of a challenging high-intensity session in 25 minutes without the high impact, stress, and cortisol spike. The impulses in this class target fast-twitch muscle fibers.
Sculpt & Sweat is a 25-minute class that moves at a moderate to high tempo with a low-impact focus. This class is designed to promote optimal movement patterns, core strength, and mobility while getting the heart pumping. The impulses in this class promote muscle-sculpting cardio with a higher ratio of slow twitch muscle fibers.
Stretch & Flow is a mobility and recovery-based class with a variety of intro yoga, mobility, varied corrective movements, balance poses, and grounding work. The impulses in this class are like working out while getting a gentle massage that is creating more mind-muscle connection and activation. Don't be intimidated if you are new to stretching. This is your gateway to mobility and relaxation. Expect to feel like you hit the reset button.

EMS (Electro Muscle Stimulation)
What is EMS?
EMS (Electro Muscle Stimulation) uses built-in electrodes in the emPower Suit to produce low-intensity electrical currents that mimic the natural electrical signals from the brain. These currents activate 90+ percent of surface and deep muscle tissue. The rapid contractions make a single 25-minute workout equivalent to a 2.5-3 hour high-impact gym session, delivering similar results in a fraction of the time without the wear and tear on joints, ligaments, and muscles.
What does it feel like?
The energy created by our emPower Suit is truly something you must feel to believe. The sensation feels like a tapping or tightening of your muscles, which can be increased or decreased at any time during the workout.
Can I use EMS if I am pregnant?
We recommend that someone who is pregnant, should not use our EMS technology.
Will training using EMS cause me to get sore?
If this is your first class or if you have pushed yourself in intensity, you will definitely feel some soreness. This will generally peak on the third day following the workout.
Typically, after your first few EMS sessions, you will feel like your body has completed a complete and rigorous workout. Soreness is common and very normal as your body is getting used to the EMS technology.
What is the history of EMS?
The earliest known use of electric muscle stimulation dates back thousands of years to the ancient Egyptians, followed by the Greeks and Romans. While the idea was explored in any number of fantastical ways since then, it was the 1960s before its time came. A reimagining.
Read more about EMS technology.
What are the benefits of EMS training?
You can get results faster in a 25-minute low-intensity workout without the wear and tear of HIIT routines. The emPower Suit generates electro pulses that engage up to 90% of all major muscle groups. EMS workouts have many benefits including:
- Being suitable for any fitness level
- Building lean muscle
- Improving strength and flexibility
- Increasing endurance
- Burning excess fat
- Toning and tightening
- Not triggering damaging cortisol spikes that HIIT can
- Having less impact on joints and ligaments
- Reducing swelling and inflammation
- Helping to strengthen muscles after injuries or surgery
Who is prohibited from the use of EMS?
We do not recommend the use of EMS technology if you have the following conditions:
- Heart disease
- Pacemakers or other electronic medical devices
- Pregnancy
- Anyone under the age of 16
It is also not recommended for those with a predisposition to epileptic seizures or convulsions, infectious diseases, high fever, blood pressure-related illnesses, skin-related diseases, or those with metal body implants.
What should I bring with me to my EMS session?
When you come to an OHM Fitness workout, we just ask that you bring a bottle of water and a good attitude! We will provide the rest. If you have purchased your own emPower Suit, please bring that as well.
As with any other workout, pre-workout nutrition and eating is important to provide the energy needed during your workout. Learn more about pre-workout nutrition by viewing this VLOG.
Is it possible to be shocked during the EMS workout?
No, there is no possibility that you will be shocked during your OHM workout.
Should I warm up before using the emPower Suit?
Feel free to come early to do a little bit of warm-up if you want to. But, all of our classes begin with a short warm-up session included as part of the workout that helps activate the suit.
I have bad knees, shoulders, elbows / a bad back. Can I still do the OHM workout?
Yes, as long as you do not have any metal/pins in your body you can do the workout, and it should be beneficial to your injury (just let our coaches know about your injury so that they can give you substitutions for the exercises that may exacerbate your injury).
Can I use EMS if I have body piercings or metal in my body (plates, screws, etc.)?
Generally, metal and body piercings are not a problem as long as the pads in the emPower Suit are not placed directly on top of them. For other conditions such as hip or knee replacements, we would recommend against using the emPower Suit as the pads will be placed over these areas or come in close contact to them.
The emPower EMS Suit
Can anyone wear the emPower Suit?
We do not recommend the use of EMS technology if you have the following conditions:
- Heart disease
- Pacemakers or other electronic medical devices
- Pregnancy
- Anyone under the age of 16
It is also not recommended for those with a predisposition to epileptic seizures or convulsions, infectious diseases, high fever, blood pressure-related illnesses, skin-related diseases, or those with metal body implants.
Is there a weight restriction on the emPower Suit?
No, there are no weight restrictions.
We have suits from XXS to XXL - The suits are at least one size smaller than normal clothing sizes (so if you usually wear XXXL you would be in an XXL suit). If we do not have your size we can custom order it.
Why am I not feeling the pulse in the emPower Suit?
Sometimes it takes a while for the emPower Suit to activate. The more you warm up and sweat the more quickly the suit begins to work, if you move around and it still does not activate, try splashing some water underneath the areas where the pads lay.
Does the electrical muscle stimulation hurt?
No! It will feel a little different than what you are used to, but it should not hurt.
Should I be concerned about reddening or skin irritations?
It is possible to have some skin reddening or irritation after a workout which is usually the result of increased blood circulation. It should go away on its own a few minutes after training. A stronger irritation can occur from excessive intensity, in which case you should use a lower intensity in the following workout.

What is Red Light Therapy?
Red Light therapy uses low wavelength red light to improve your skin’s appearance, such as reducing wrinkles, scars, redness, and acne.
How does Red Light Therapy work?
Red Light Therapy works on the mitochondria in your body’s cells, which are like the cell’s power plants. With more energy, other cells can work more efficiently in repairing cells and boosting new cell growth.
What is the benefit of Red Light Therapy?
- Promotes wound healing and tissue repair
- Supports collagen production (anti-aging)
- Reduces swelling and inflammation
- Improves joint health
- Increases melatonin (improves sleep)
- Improves physical performance, muscle recovery, and energy levels
Is it safe to look directly into the Red Light?
There are modest amounts of research that suggest that Red Light may be beneficial for the eyes in small quantities. However, our panels use both Red and NIR light. Because there are studies that suggest that NIR is not helpful for the eyes, we would recommend wearing the provided eye protection when looking directly at the light. A glance at the light without eye protection shouldn't be a problem, but we would recommend it during the session.
Can I test out the Red Light Therapy?
Red Light Therapy is included in our Intro Offer Week for trial!
Is there anyone who cannot do Red Light Therapy?
- Eye conditions - People with eye disorders, diabetes, glaucoma, cataracts, or eye damage should consult an eye specialist before using RLT. Flickering lights can also cause seizures.
- Photosensitive conditions - People with conditions that cause photosensitivity, such as lupus, or who are taking photosensitizing medications, such as lithium, melatonin, or certain antibiotics, should avoid RLT.
- Skin conditions - People with a history of skin cancer should avoid RLT. Prolonged or high-intensity exposure can damage the skin, and at-home devices can cause burns, blisters, or eye damage if not used properly.
- Other conditions - Pregnant people and children should also avoid RLT
